Point Loma

San Diego was discovered in 1542 by Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo from Spain.   He landed on what is now known as Point Loma.  Cabrillo National Monument commemorates Juan’s voyage and discovery.

Point Loma is a seaside neighborhood that is a hilly peninsula bordered by the San Diego Bay, Pacific Ocean and Old Town.  It has at least four distinct districts.  Up on the Point you will find multimillion dollar mansions, down by Midway are a conglomerate of commercial stores, on the Ocean Beach side you will find endless cliffs and surf and on the Harbor side you will find beautiful yachts.

Point Loma used to be home to the US Navy Recruit Training Command/Naval Training Center.  In 1996 the training center was moved out of state and Liberty Station was born.  Liberty Station is a 361 acre mixed use project that includes residential, retail, educational, civic, arts and cultural districts.  Liberty station was developed by the City of San Diego and the Corky McMillin companies.  It also includes a golf course, a waterfront park and a 100-acre historic district.

Navel Base Point Loma is located at the end of Rosecrans and it includes the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.  The National Cemetery is home to solders who have given their life in the service of our country.

Point Loma is home to some very good educational institutions like Cabrillo Elementary school, High Tech High and Point Loma Nazarene University.

Point Loma is just minutes from Downtown San Diego, the airport, Sea World and of course the San Diego Bay and Pacific Ocean. 

Property values in Point Loma have increased since 1998 and have experienced moderate declines in 2007 and 2008.
